AUSLOCK Says “Unlock” but Latch Won’t Retract (Causes + Fixes)

Mergim Hoxha |

If your AUSLOCK says “Unlock” but the latch/deadbolt doesn’t retract, check power + friction first.

Most common causes

  • Low batteries: Motor lacks torque to retract fully.
  • Door/strike friction: Latch binds against the strike plate.
  • Misalignment: Door sagging or tight weather seals.
  • Calibration/handing: Lock direction not set correctly (where supported).

Fix steps

  1. Replace batteries with fresh brand-name batteries.
  2. Test with door open (does latch retract smoothly?).
  3. If it works open but not closed: adjust strike plate alignment.
  4. Re-run calibration/lock direction setup if your model supports it.

Tip: If you hear the motor straining, stop testing and fix alignment to prevent wear.
